Feachtas a thosaigh in Ollscoil Mhá Nuad atá ag iarraidh aitheantas ceart a bhaint amach do daoine leis an síneadh fada ar an ainm. Ní féidir faoi láthair an síneadh fada a fháil ar roinnt seirbhísí iompair phoiblí, agus cártaí aitheantais eile m.sh. LeapCard, cárta mic léinn srl. Tá sé mar aidhm ag an bhfeachtas seo eolas a thabhairt do dhaoine maidir le húsáid an tsínidh fhada i saol laethúil muintir na hÉireann agus raic a chruthú maidir leis an neamhaird a thugann an Rialtas dóibh siúd a bhfuil ainmneacha Gaeilge orthu.

This campaign was founded by students in Maynooth University who wished to get more recognition for people with a síneadh fada on their name. Currently it is not possible for people to get a fada on their name when using public transport and on certain types of I.D. (LeapCard, college student card). The aim of this campaign is to create awareness on how people use the síneadh fada in their everyday lives and to demonstrate the ignorance shown by the Government to those with fads in their names.

Is píosa reachtaíochta é Acht na Gaeilge, creatlach shoiléir dhlíthiúil a chinntíonn nach mbíonn cosaint nó cur chun cinn na Gaeilge fágtha faoi chúram / faoi léamh aon aire nó polaiteora. Tá reachtaíocht mar seo ann cheana féin sa Bhreatain Bheag, i bPoblacht na hÉireann, in Albain, agus ar fud na cruinne, a thugann stádas oifigiúil do na teangacha sin. Cuirfidh Acht Gaeilge deireadh le hionsaithe leatromacha (m.s. Líofa). Baineann reachtaíocht ceist na teanga amach as an timpeallacht shuarach idir-pháirtí agus cuidíonn le normalú dearcthaí don teanga. Cruthóidh Acht Gaeilge soiléiriú i dtaobh ionchais an phobail mar a bhaineann le seirbhísí ón stát srl. Tabharfaidh sé fosta soiléiriú do na húdaráis stáit agus poiblí maidir leis na dualgais atá orthu i dtaobh na teanga.

An Irish Language Act is a piece of legislation, a clear legal framework which will ensure that the protection and promotion of Irish is not dependent on the will or interpretation of any given Minister or Party. Similar legislation already exists in Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland and in many countries around the globe and provides official status for those languages. An Irish Language Act should prevent discriminatory, politically motivated attacks (e.g. Líofa) Legislation removes issue from confrontational party-politics and will help normalise attitudes in relation to the Irish language. An Irish Language Act will provide the Irish speaking community with clarity around expectations from state relating to services etc. It will also provide state and public authorities with clarity around their obligations in relation to the language. An Irish language Act should be based firstly on the promise made in the St Andrew’s Agreement, on international best-practice and on other language acts across these islands and worldwide.
