Deputy President / Campaigns Officer 2010

conan

Hello All,

My name is Cónán Ó Broin, and I am the USI Deputy President for the year 2010-2011.

I hail from Clondalkin in Co. Dublin and am a 23-year- old graduate of Trinity College, where I received a degree in Economics and Political Science after four years of study. During my five years in Trinity, I served as Chairman of the Gaelic Football Club, as Oifigeach na Gaeilge on the Students’ Union executive, and was subsequently President of Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union for the year 2009-2010.

Aside from deputizing in the absence of the President, my role is to head up USI’s major campaigns over the course of the year. The areas which I will be focusing on specifically this year are:

  • Planning and implementing a new marketing and branding strategy for USI.
  • Planning, strategizing and leading the campaign to ensure that there are neither further cuts to the maintenance grant in Budget 2011, or any increases in the student registration fee, which all sides admit is a form of tuition fees.
  • Overseeing and co-coordinating the work of the Area Officers of USI.
  • Assisting the policy officers with their campaigning work in their various portfolios.

I will also be organizing a training event for November of this year, and I will be taking an active part in the organization of both the Lobby of the Oireachtas and Green Training.

As the country continues to deal with the consequences of the economic collapse, there is no doubt that students face a difficult year to ensure that their interests are protected. USI will be fighting hard all year to ensure that students interests are well defended at a national level.

Beir Bua,

Cónán Ó Broin
