USI President 2010

Gary Redmond

Hi,

I’m Gary Redmond, the President of USI.

Before being elected USI President in April 2010 I served as the President ('09/'10) & a Vice-President ('08/'09) of UCD Students’ Union. I’m originally from Arklow in Co. Wicklow and studied Computer Science in UCD.

As the President of USI, I am also the CEO of the organisation responsible for overseeing the day to day running of USI.

The President is the chief spokesperson & representative of the organisation and is

responsible for leading the union’s work and delegating working among officers. Along with dealing with media some of my other duties include representing student views on the HEA (Higher Education Authority), NQAI (National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) and the IUQB (Irish Universities’ Quality Board).

The next 12 months are going to be particularly difficult for Ireland and the education sector in general. If we are to reach our objective of being a knowledge-based, smart economy with highly skilled gruadates that attract foreign investment, and stimulate enterprise, we need to continue to invest in education.

My team and I look forward to representing student views at the highest level and continuing to strive towards our goal of an education system of the highest standard that is accessible to all.

Is mise le meas,

Gary Redmond
