THE Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght will be abuzz today with members of the community engaging with local businesses, TDs, sports clubs and students to discuss the educational issues facing them in the coming months.  Members of ITTSU (Institute of Tallaght Student Union) and USI (Union of Students in Ireland) are hosting the Community Engagement Day. Some key matters that will be openly discussed tomorrow will be the positive impact which students have on local business in Tallaght, and local TDs will speak about the issues facing the community as a whole. The main focus of the event is to show support for the most financially vulnerable families and members of the community.

Glenn O’Brien, ITTSU President said:

“We’re delighted to be engaging with the community in Tallaght on student issues. Many people in our college rely heavily on the maintenance grant and different financial supports. It is important that coming up to the October Budget students and the community are united in protecting the most vulnerable families.”

Joe O’Connor, USI President said:

“Students play a vital and vibrant role in the local community in Tallaght and in communities’ right across the country. The results of this week’s Irish League of Credit Unions study has shown the importance of issues like the cost of college and student supports to not only students but to parents and families also. That is why it is important that our ‘Fight for Your Future Now’ campaign engages not only students, but their communities too.”

There will be a number of activities taking place tomorrow such as face painting to keep the young members of the community engaged, as well as complimentary soft drinks and USI National Campaign ‘Fight For Your Future Now’ merchandise for those who pop down to show their support.
