Union of Students in Ireland: Development of App & Development of Interactive Map
USI Seeks Developers for two projects under their mental health project. Applicants may apply for one or both of the projects. Please indicate clearly what you are applying for.

Introduction
USI is the sole national representative body for the 374,000 students in third level education on the Island of Ireland encompassing 30 colleges. USI works to improve and protect the lives of students every day on academic and social issues through campaigns, training and research. We are a membership organisation – our members are our affiliated Students’ Unions around Ireland, North and South. USI’s activities predominantly affects students and other people who are living in cities or regions that have either a higher education or further education institute in the region.
Background
College students are an important population when it comes to mental health and suicide prevention. Peak onset for mental health problems occur in early adulthood with 75% of difficulties occurring before the age of 25. This high-risk period coincides with entrance into and time spent in third level education.
1. USI Mental Health Project App Development
Introduction
The USI have been granted funding to create an app to enable students have a conversation around mental health.
Ask
Content will be written by USI however we are looking for someone to design and develop the app. The app will mainly be about providing information to students and will include some interactive features. The app will be required to be compatible on both apple and android devices. The developer will be required to work with a designer on integrating images/designs for app. Information on upkeep will need to be accessible and available to USI. Full spec will be made available to interested candidates.
Timeline
This project will be required to be completed by Friday the 17th of August 2018.
Budget and payment
The applicant will be required to submit a full breakdown of costs ensuring that the project is value for money with a budget of €2000 – 2500. 50% of payment will be made on selection with the final 50% paid on completion.
Ownership of material
USI will have full ownership and intellectual property of the material developed.
2. USI Mental Health Project – Mapping of Services
Introduction
To encourage and enable help seeking, students need to be aware of services available to them. To aid this USI has been granted funding to create an interactive map of services.
Ask
Content will be provided by USI however we are looking for someone to design and develop the Map. The Map will require exact positioning of services and will be connected to google maps/or have an alternative direction system. It will be required to be embedded on both USI website and an app USI are currently developing. Information on upkeep will need to be accessible and available to USI.
Timeline
This project will be required to be completed by Friday the 17th of August 2018.
Budget and payment
The budget for this project is between €500- 700. 50% of payment will be made on selection with the final 50% paid on completion.
Ownership of material
USI will have full ownership and intellectual property of the material developed.
