USI is sad to learn of the decision of the High Court today (27/03/2020) to place Usit Travel into liquidation.

The travel company, which can trace its lineage back to its formation by the Union of Students in Ireland in the 1960s, is an important part of Irish life and has played a vital part in students’ experiences of travel for decades.

Whilst USI has had no formal relationship with Usit Travel for a number of years, we enjoy working with the firm and hope that the legacy of this cornerstone of the Irish travel market can yet be saved. Our thoughts today are with the staff, and we hope that students who had made plans with the firm can be made whole in the coming days.

Students who have paid for products and who would like to try to secure a refund should try to make contact with Usit Travel’s liquidators in the coming days, and may wish to contact FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres) on www.flac.ie or the Citizen’s Information on https://www.citizensinformation.ie/ for further advice.
