The Healthy Ireland Network initiative was launched in Dublin Castle on the 18/05/2017. The Healthy Ireland Network launch was opened by former Irish Rugby International and current chair of the Healthy Ireland council Keith Woods, followed by contributions from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Minister for Health Simon Harris and Health Promotion Minster for Health Promotion Marcella Corcoron Kennedy.
The Purpose of the Healthy Ireland Network is:
- To establish and grow an empowering National movement through which Health and Well-being is seen as an individual and collective responsibility
- To support, advocate and ensure the Healthy Ireland message is spread, understood and acted on throughout Ireland
USI was nominated by the Healthy Ireland Council to contribute further to the national and local framework as being a network partner. As USI is a key stakeholder in health in Ireland representing student. USI welcomed the initiative and look forward to continue to work more closely top achieve the goals and visions set out by the Healthy Ireland framework.
USI Vice President for Welfare, Cian Power, said at the launch, “USI are delighted to be now part of the Healthy Ireland Initiative and being a stakeholder in the network. We see the value in collaborating to reach the ultimate goal to improve Ireland’s relationship with health, and as a the sole national representative body for students, we see this as extremely important, now more than ever. We re looking forward to the journey ahead and contributing positively to the goal of Healthy Ireland”.
