The Union of Students in Ireland passionately support the campaign to revoke DCU student Shepherd Machaya’s deportation order for Sunday 21st October. DCU Students’ Union is leading this social justice campaign, calling upon Minister Charlie Flanagan to revoke the order immediately.

On Friday, 19th October students from all around Dublin will gather to protest outside the department of Justice at 12:30pm to urge the Minister to allow Shepherd to complete his studies in Dublin City University and stay in Ireland, the country that he calls home.

USI vehemently condemns the deportation of Shepherd, speaking on this USI President Siona Cahill states:
“Pulling any student from their studies is unjust, pulling a man from a country where he calls home only to be sent back to where he courageously left due to life threatening circumstances is barbaric and downright immoral.

“The national student movement stands behind Shepherd and will be actively campaigning on his behalf alongside DCU Students’ Union to keep him in Ireland. Shepherd Machaya has been a positive influence in Irish society since his arrival, entering Higher Education through the University of Sanctuary scheme for refugees in order to better his quality of life. He must be allowed to stay on this island. Save our Shepherd now. Join us outside the Department of Justice, tomorrow at 12.30pm.”

Shepherd Machaya has just 3 days until he is due to be deported to Zimbabwe. Make the change now by signing the petition to call upon minister Charlie Flanagan to revoke this order and save our Shepherd. https://www.change.org/p/minister-charlie-flanagan-save-our-shepherd
