460,000 Young People Warned to ‘Check the Register’ Before May 8th Referendum Deadline

Four national youth organisations are advising the 460,000* young people eligible to vote in the upcoming abortion referendum to ‘check the register’ before the May 8th voter registration deadline. The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), youth website SpunOut.ie and LGBTI youth organisation BeLonGTo are all urging young people aged between 18 and 25 to ensure their voices are heard in the May 25th poll by making sure they are registered. OECD Link Between Youth Employment and Suicide is Frightening, Needs Action

The direct link the latest OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) reports make between youth unemployment and  suicide is frightening, and shows an urgent a response is needed. The latest OECD reports on Ireland support USI’s calls for greater action on Youth Unemployment, and are critical of Ireland’s efforts to address this crisis. USI Welcomes New Report to Reduce Gender Inequality in Higher Education

The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has welcomed a new report to address gender inequality in high education, by introducing gender quotas. USI said gender quotas will improve the third level education sector in terms of equal representation, diversity and rights.
