Comment: I gladly and fully commit to the student manifesto and all of it’s aims most particularly to the ending of Direct provision my current day job is with South Dublin County Partnership as Integration and Housing Support Officer for the migrant community in South Dublin and beyond. I work with refugees and asylum seekers on a daily basis so the issue is very close to my heart and I am very happy to see it on the agenda for USI.

Comment: I support fully publicly funded third level education in Ireland and reject any move towards a student loan scheme system and I will continue to seek to shape Green Party policy to ensure commitment to this goal. I will support the provision of dedicated, affordable student accommodation near TUD Tallaght Campus, where those projects are developed in tandem with the provision of suitable housing for local communities.

I support ending the direct provision system in Ireland and fully support the integration of refugees and asylum seekers in Tallaght and South Dublin.

I want increased investment in public transport links, in rural and urban areas, including improved cycling facilities. I will strongly advocate for improved access to waste reduction and recycling facilities in Tallaght and South Dublin. I will demand significant efforts to reduce the amount of single use plastic used in Council activities and by local businesses. Providing increased initiatives for carbon emission reduction across council services, for homeowners and business owners is top of my agenda should I be elected and I will continue to reiterate the Green Party’s call for a deposit and return scheme, and similar initiatives, to reduce dramatically our reliance on single-use plastics.

I look forward to meeting with TUD Tallaght Campus Students’ Union in the first year of my term, if elected.

Additional Comments: I have just spent the last 6 years as a mature student in full time higher education. I have been proud to be part of the campaign against the introduction of student loans, I am committed to publicly funded higher education, SUSI grant reform to cover the actual costs of education up to and including level 10 courses as well as improved resourcing of access courses and intro of measures to encourage more non-traditional students back into education.
The direct provision system is our modern day Magdalene Laundries. I am ashamed to live in a country that can treat fellow human beings in such a way.
We need to see action not false promises and progressive rhetoric if we want to reduce plastic use, our carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels. We face enormous EU fines and so we need to take action now. Our children deserve better.

Additional Comments: Hi
Thank you for approaching. In one of my manifestoes, I have said that this is my aim to work for building an innovative community. I have studies Innovation and entrepreneurship from UCD.

I have been inviting students to come and present an innovative idea to make a better community.

I also heard the student’s voice who talked about climate change. I decided to go POSTER FREE in my election campaign. Let me tell you that for the green environment I have not used any poster. All of my campaigns is poster free.

I am also inviting students to present ideas to make Lucan plastic free. ( because I am standing in Lucan so mentioned Lucan here. But my aim is wider for the whole country)

EP/LE Candidate?: Local

EP Electoral Area: Select One

LE Electoral Area: South Dublin County

Additional Comments: Election promises mean little. Track record is more important, especially for existing office holders. I have a track record of protecting education investment and halting the reintroduction of third level fees as a TD and was thanked by teaching and student unions back in the day. I’ve also an excellent record on green issues with verified proof of motions tabled on Council and in Dail also. I am vegan and drive an electric car and cycle, so try and lead by example until legislative measures curbing damaging collective behaviour are brought in.

I don’t support direct provision and so am happy to sign up on this also.

Additional Comments: I congratulate the USI and all Students for this initiative. I ran in the 1991 elections on an environment and sustainable development ticket (Planning corruption was rife then) and this year Climate, the Environment and Community are at the core of my campaign. I am active as an An Taisce Climate Ambassador and believe that LAs are well positioned to lead the action.

Additional Comments: I strongly believe in education as an important key to choose for ourselves and our freedoms. As well, I am delighted to see that Climate Change has been taken to the emergency level, as it is. Finally, I have worked for many years in Direct Provision centres, and I am very aware of how this system is destroying and harming the life of people and their families.

Well done about this manifesto.

Thank you
