95% of voting students in IT Tralee have chosen to remain affiliated to USI (Union of Students’ in Ireland). With a total valid poll of 376 votes, 357 students voted ‘Yes’ to affiliation, with just 19 opposing and 4 spoilt votes.

This result will see IT Tralee Students’ Union, which represents IT Tralee North and South Campuses remain affiliated with USI. This maintains the USI membership of every single Institute of Technology student in the country. Today, IT Tralee students also voted 95% in support of Marriage Equality.

The result has been welcomed by USI President Joe O’Connor:

“I am delighted at the overwhelming support shown by IT Tralee students today for remaining affiliated to USI. This ensures that every Institute of Technology student in the country remains a member of USI.

The student movement has massive battles ahead, including fighting for public funding of Higher Education, fair pay and conditions for graduates, and marriage equality. The more united we are the better chance we have to succeed in these challenges.”
