The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has raised concerns over the spending of students’ and taxpayers money in light of the RTÉ Investigates documentary aired last night. USI is sad to learn of the decision of the High Court today (27/03/2020) to place Usit Travel into liquidation. The travel company, which can trace its lineage back to its formation by the Union of Students in Ireland in the 1960s, is an important part of Irish life and has played a vital part in students’ experiences of travel for decades. Whilst USI has had no formal relationship with Usit Travel for a number of years, we enjoy working with the firm and hope that the legacy of this cornerstone of the Irish travel market can yet be saved. The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) is alerting young people ahead of the end of exam parties and summer festivals of the risky business involved in taking novel and unknown drugs. In particular, people need to be aware and educated on novel drugs currently circulating which have recently seen some students become ill and hospitalised.
