Support and Funding for Part-Time and Further Education Students

For the Government to commit to part-time and further education students receiving the same supports that would be available to full-time students in similar circumstances and make a hardship fund available for students who are studying part-time and in further education. A number of support funds, including the Fund for Student with Disabilities, the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) and the Maintenance Grant are only available for students studying on a full-time basis in recognised Higher Education Institution. USI Rent Book 2012

The launch of the USI Rent Book is featured in the national newspapers today. Coverage of the launch, including a large photo were published in both the The Irish Times and The Irish Independent. President Higgins to meet USI and Students’ Union representatives

President Michael D. Higgins is to meet with representatives from the Union of Students in Ireland and its member Students’ Unions tomorrow in Áras an Uachtaráin at 4.30pm. The meeting is intended to give student representatives a chance to discuss the President’s Being Young and Irish 2012 initiative. The Being Young and Irish 2012 initiative seeks to advance the national discourse on inclusion by harnessing the power of young people, enabling them to participate and be more involved. Almost 27,000 students register to vote

“We expect this number to rise. We’re not finished yet” says USI President The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) today announced that Students’ Unions all over Ireland have directly registered 26,979 new student voters in the in the lead up to the referendum to remove the Eighth Amendment.
