20,000 Students Received Organ Donor Cards Across Ireland

In September, USI teamed up with the Irish Kidney Association (IKA) during Freshers Weeks to hand out Organ Donor Cards in a bid to save students’ lives. USI President Michael Kerrigan said, ‘In your lifetime, you’re three times more likely to need organ transplantation than dying in the circumstances to be considered a potential organ donor. Signing the donor card signals your willingness to allow your organs and tissues to be transplanted. The Week in USI – 15th to 20th January

General Some of the key issues we worked on this week include mental health, autonomy of students’ unions, consent training, attending class Rep councils, workers rights for early education students, the democratic review of USI, living wage campaigns, and disability rights. A full-day event for SU presidents on Thursday 19th focussed on preparing for Term 2. Topics included team management, good governance, student engagement and communication. New Officer Board for USI

 The Union of Students in Ireland has a new Officer Board. The new team took office on 1 July 2015 and will serve until the end of June 2016.  They’re led by Kevin Donoghue, who previously served as VP for the Border, Midlands and Western Region and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance. USI launches National Student Housing Survey

Today (11 January 2017), the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has launched a National Student Housing Survey, inviting responses from students across the Republic of Ireland. The survey seeks to assess the housing situation of students across the country and preferences of students regarding their accommodation. The housing crisis in Ireland has had a negative impact on studying trends, academic performance and mental health of students.
