102 Students’ Union Officers Trained

USI proudly announces 102 Students’ Union Officers from all over Ireland being trained from their national representative body. Students’ Union Training (SUT) took place from July 10th to July 14th in Athlone IT, and saw the highest attendance of Students’ Union officers from over 30 Students’ Unions. The training was in conjunction with NUS-UK and NUS-USI. SUT aims to introduce officers to their political leadership role with their Students’ Union and provide the skills and knowledge to enable officers to consider their leadership style and effectively influence and lead those around them. Press Release Today (Monday 11th November) the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) launch ‘More Talk, More Action’ a national campaign to get Irish students talking about mental health with the help of former rugby star and mental health advocate Alan Quinlan in the National College of Ireland (NCI) at 11am. In partnership with Lyons Tea, See Change and St Patrick’s Mental Health Services, thousands of ‘Chats for Change’ packs will be distributed across college campuses nationwide. USI calls on students to turn out in force for this weekend’s National Demonstration for Palestine, co-organised by the union

The Union of Students in Ireland is calling on students to join this weekend’s National Demonstration for Palestine, which is being co-organised by the union, to show that students stand for peace and against apartheid in Gaza. USI has joined with the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other civil society organisations to organise the march from the Garden of Remembrance on Saturday, November 18 at 1pm. USI is calling on homeowners with a spare room in their home to open their door to students  in need of accommodation. To promote the Homes For Study initiative, a major promotional campaign is now underway across Ireland. Home owners in areas such as Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick, Waterford will receive information in the post in the coming days in the form of a leaflet outlining the easy steps they can take to register their spare room. The Union of Students in Ireland has today released an update to the homes.usi.ie website, which connects students to spare rooms across the country. Home owners can benefit from a tax free €12,000 ‘rent-a-room relief’ if they take on a lodger.  Speaking as the site was released, USI President Kevin Donoghue was keen to stress the benefits of the system. “This site is designed to provide quality, affordable accommodation to students while easing the stress on the rental market as a whole.
